GRADUATE INTERN
PROVO CITY MAYOR’S OFFICE          
Part-Time Seasonal Position

Essential Duties:  This is an intern position in the Mayor’s Office of Provo City Corporation.  The individual appointed to this position will be required to assist the Mayor and his staff in a variety of assignments and administrative projects.

Minimum Requirements: Bona fide graduate student in Public Administration or a related field.  Must have strong analytical and writing skills and be able to conduct research and exercise independent judgment.

License:  Valid, driver’s license is required at time of appointment.  Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Selection Factors: Thorough knowledge of analytical skills in organizing data and preparing reports; and good computer skills.  Applicant must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; interact effectively with co-workers and the public; be self motivated and exercise sound judgment; and work independently.
                                                                       
Schedule/Duration: Approximately 40 hours per week through the summer and 10 hours per week during the school year.

Wage: $15.00 per hour.   Payment will be made by direct deposit.
 
Screening:  Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education.  Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview.  Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions.  Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.

Physical/Environmental Factors:  This work requires remaining seated at a computer or desk for extended periods of time; frequent exposure to computers, electronics, electrical devices, noise, paper dust, toner, etc.  Position may also require exposure to high stress situations or environments, including, contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances.

Pre-employment Testing:  Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation.  Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
