The MCC Student Volunteer Internship Program is recruiting for its Summer 2015 session.  Internships are provided for students with a desire to work in the international development field and/or public sector and assignments are designed to complement the intern's educational pursuits while meeting the expressed needs of the agency and individual MCC departments.
DEPARTMENT OF POLICY & EVALUATION : Candidates will have an opportunity to assist with a wide-range of duties related to policy and program evaluation of MCC countries.



·          POLICY RESEARCH INTERN

The Policy Research Intern will work with staff in the office of the VP to research, compile and provide analysis on a range of development policy issues related to MCC's work. Topics could include inclusive growth, aid transparency, country ownership, innovative finance, global poverty, and more.  The Policy Intern will use MCC and external resources to:

1.        Write high quality, policy relevant analyses and talking points, often at short notice.

2.        Summarize current research, evidence, and policy positions. 

3.        Create and organize an online document library, including annotated bibliography entries, facts for use in talking points, etc.

4.        Position requires knowledge of international development, excellent writing and analytical skills, and an ability to translate academic research to inform policymakers.  The position requires an ability to quickly grasp new topics, identify most important sources of research and information, and produce cogent analyses.



Threshold

The Department of Policy and Evaluation’s (DPE) Division of Policy Improvement (PI) Intern shall be responsible for three primary tasks: (1) complete a desk review of literature on specific threshold countries to develop an understanding of the country and the region; (2) complete political economy analyses of the binding constraints identified in the CA; (3) contribute to the creation of website, factsheets, guides and other public communications content for threshold program countries; (4) conduct other research and analysis in support of other activities within the Policy Improvement division; and (5) provide other support to the team as needed.

Economics

o            Provide analytical support for MCC Economists conducting growth diagnostics(constraints analysis);

o            Provide technical and analytical support to MCC Economists conducting cost-benefit analysis and beneficiary analysis for proposed or re-scoped MCC investments;

o            Prepare reports, spreadsheets, data and documentation;

o            Develop other materials including factsheets, guides for use of spreadsheets, and other public communications tools;

o            Conduct research and analysis in support of other activities within the EA Division and the Department of Policy and Evaluation

o            Other duties as assigned.



MONITORING AND EVALUATION INTERN :  Interns will assist with data documentation of current methods for monitoring and evaluating compact programs;Review M&E business process as it relates to developing the management information system and website reporting (MIS); conduct research and prepare reports on donor involvement in Compact and Threshold countries; generating quantitative and qualitative summaries of country performance on M&E indicators; preparing country program summaries, performance measurements, and results data for publication and website posting; assisting with preparing data reports for MCC senior management, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders; creating/maintaining resource libraries; attending internal and external meetings; and other duties as assigned.

 

DEVELOPMENT POLICY INTERN: MCC's Development Policy (DP) team is responsible formanaging the research, analysis, and decision-making process behind the annual selection of MCC country partners.  Interns will assist the DP team byusing qualitative and quantitative research skills to provide relevant information and analysis on country-specific policy areas and international development issues.  Candidates with demonstrated capacity to provide independent and policy-relevant analysis, and have exceptional analytical andwriting skills are strongly encouraged to apply.



·          Policy & Evaluation Intern:  Interns will assist with data documentation of current methods for monitoring and evaluating compact programs; Review M&E business process as it relates to developing the management information system and website reporting (MIS); conduct research and prepare reports on donor involvement in Threshold countries; generating quantitative and qualitative summaries of country policy performance and indicators; preparing country program summaries, performance measurements, and results data for publication and website posting; monitoring and tracking country policy issues and drafting summaries of issue findings; assisting with preparing policy data reports ; creating/maintaining resource libraries; researching and logging summaries and sources of findings on instances where MCC has been linked with incentives for policy reform in candidate countries; attending internal and external meetings; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Students must meet the following requirements to qualify:



·          Must be currently enrolled at least half-time in an accredited degree/diploma program (unless higher level program is specified)

·          Must be in good academic standing
