Description:This position is a part-time (5-10 hours per week) temporary assignment (June - August) with the possibility of extension through Fall.

Responsibilities: Applies advanced professional career counseling concepts, conducts strategic needs assessments and plans and develops career services to help students/alumni in career planning, setting career goals, and improving search competencies. Provides experienced/executive level career counseling and individually tailored career coaching/advising to students in the Master of Public Affairs (MPA) program interested in advancing their current careers and/or making career changes. 

Responsibilities include:
• Provides career counseling in particularly complex areas that require specialized expertise, such as PhD students who are investigating either academic careers and those outside academia, or students attaining J.D.s. 
• Researches, designs, and develops workshops and programs to meet students' and alumni's career needs. Conducts needs assessments, and collaborates with GSPP Career Staff and MPA executive director in workshop design and development.
• Maintains detailed metrics of student advising sessions and outcomes.
• Presents sensitive and difficult information about the career program, including presentations to incoming and prospective students.



Requires Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skills:
• Advanced knowledge of career development theories and coaching strategies.
• Excellent knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; and learning and motivation.
• Advanced knowledge of career decision making, and job search techniques.
• Advanced knowledge of policy and public sector industry job market.
• Detailed knowledge of hiring practices and recruiting/ staffing methods for mid to senior career professionals as well as employment trends.
• Advanced knowledge of LinkedIn and other social media tools.
• Highly effective problem identification and solving skills, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
• Excellent computer skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new software programs and online resources.
• Excellent judgment in handling sensitive information.
Education/Training:
• Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Criminal Background Check: This is a designated position requiring fingerprinting and a background check due to the nature of the job responsibilities.  Berkeley does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.    The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
