Job Summary:
This is a time-limited position. Employees conduct investigations into allegations of individuals and businesses involved in a variety of inappropriate activities, rules infractions, illegal actions, or any other conduct that is in violation of consumer protection laws and regulations of the State of Utah. Employees work independently under general supervision and perform a full range of investigative assignments. Investigations typically include researching and gathering evidence, analyzing facts and law, interviewing witnesses, writing citations, thoroughly documenting the investigative process, determining violations, and participating in administrative hearings. Employees are not required to respond to situations involving threats to public safety or perform duties that consist of actively preventing or detecting crime, or perform duties that primarily provide community protection; however, employees may serve as an expert witness; conduct undercover operations; determine if laws have been broken; and provide/conduct training. Employees in this job do not obtain warrants of arrest.
Example of Duties
· Conducts investigations into allegations of a variety of inappropriate activities, rules infractions or illegal actions.
· Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
· Receives, researches and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains policy and procedures, and/or facilitates a resolution.
· Maintains detailed inspection or investigation records, prepares reports, and attends to other related administrative requirements.
· Acts as an expert witness. Gives testimony and /or recommendations in administrative hearings and court cases.
· Coordinates program activities, services, and/or program implementation with private providers, other governmental entities, program users, etc.

Supplemental Information
· Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
· Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) or similar activities.
