Job Description

Project Read provides one-on-one tutoring services to functionally illiterate adults in Utah County and changes lives through literacy by empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building community. The goals of Project Read are met through the cooperation of community volunteers and other organizations that serve adults with low literacy skills. We are seeking an experienced part-time Development Director, working approximately 20 hours per week, to help us achieve our goals. Responsibilities
The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the development strategy for Project Read. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will be responsible for achieving Project Read’s fundraising goals and engaging sponsors in ongoing service and support activities. This includes leveraging key relationships and contacts within and outside of Project Read to ensure meeting the program revenue goals.
Duties include: • Implement the Benevon model, which includes helping to create/implement a fundraising plan, overseeing fundraising and cultivation events (including the annual Spelling Bee and Ask Event) and lead ongoing fundraising efforts • Lead and manage Project Read’s overall development efforts to raise an annual budget of $200K • Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current individual donors and potential corporate & foundation sponsors • Develop and grow individual, corporate and foundation donor base • Help develop Project Read Board fundraising capacity, including working with board members to acquire and cultivate leads
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent prior experience, preferred • Understanding of community service and education a plus • Integrity and professionalism above the norm • Proven track record of achieving fundraising targets in the non-profit sector • Strong direct sales or business development experience in a service industry or with a non-profit, with an emphasis on corporate sponsorships or corporate sales • Proven management and leadership capabilities • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail • High degree of initiative and resourcefulness • Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new fundraising or account prospects • Strong partnership-building and event-planning skills • Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base • Good computer skills and knowledge of database programs
