Job Description: Data Unit Research Associate will use SQL programming to extract data from a state information system and use Microsoft report builder to design interactive reports. Other tasks include analyzing the data, formatting it into reports using excel, Power BI, and various software programs. Strong candidates will have statistical experience, and familiarity with applying research questions to data, particularly regarding demographic and outcome information. You will be asked to review information systems to ensure compliance with procedures, policies, regulations; and facilitate/chair work groups, etc.
This position requires a strong working knowledge of creating and querying databases as well as an ability to design and communicate complicated analyses. This position requires strong organizational skills/ability to manage complex data projects, and strong interpersonal and communication skills to function as a liaison among program management and staff, IT personnel, and consultants.
Example of Duties:
- Uses SQL to create datasets and Microsoft Report builder to create report displays
- Designs reports and data displays that communicate complex information in a simple, easy to interpret manner (ie dashboards)
- Supports program administrators by providing analysis, answering data questions, and monitoring data quality
- Anticipates the impact that new or modified reporting and analysis software will have on existing standard systems.
- Audits and reviews systems and practices to ensure compliance with procedures, regulations and standards.
- Identifies problems or potential problem areas with data collection screens, data entry, or data interpretation and recommends solutions

Required experience :
- using programming language to extract data from a database
- designing reports and presenting data analysis
- determining the appropriate statistical data analysis for a research question
- principles, theories, and practices of data security
- deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
- test software using appropriate methodology and techniques
- knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures
- Master's degree in a data science field (statistics, education, social sciences, etc)
- Proficiency in SQL programming language
- Proficiency with data visualization programs (Tableau, Domo, Power BI)
- Proficiency with Microsoft report builder
