The State Department is reaching out to college students to brainstorm for new ideas of how to address current problems in the world today. Winners will be invited to Washington D.C. to pitch their ideas to State Dept. officials.
Description: Secretary Kerry has encouraged the U.S. Department of State to engage the American people in the work of diplomacy and development and broaden the Department’s foreign policy making in response to a proliferation of complex global challenges. In response to the Secretary’s call and in recognition of the growing role young people are playing in shaping the global agenda, the U.S. Department of State is launching a new policy pitching platform, Wonk Tank, under the existing Diplomacy Lab partnership aimed at fostering the next generation of foreign policy leaders.
What is Wonk Tank?
Wonk tank is a platform for university students across the United States to showcase their ability to be America’s next great “policy wonk.” Policy proposals must have specific international problem or challenge requiring attention, a nuanced solution, and next steps to consider in order to implement the proposal. A 3-5 minute “TEDTalk style” video uploaded to YouTube must be linked in the proposal submission detailing the policy pitch and providing insight into how students might present their policy pitch in Washington, D.C. before Department of State officials at the final Wonk Tank round on Friday, March 11, 2016.
Deadline: submit by January 15, 2016
