The City of Lake Oswego is offering a great opportunity for an incoming or current graduate student in Public Administration, interested in gaining experience and exposure to local government management.  The individual selected for the internship will spend approximately three months (summer) working closely with the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, and Deputy City Manager on a broad range of local government management issues including human resource management, budgeting, finance, and community development, as well as the delivery of a wide range of services including utilities, library, recreation and parks, transportation and public safety. The position will be paid at the rate of $14 per hour with the option of 20-40 hours per week.

This is the tenth year of the program with previous interns working on projects such as neighborhood grants, program evaluations, compensation studies, emergency management, and budget.

Description: Job Summary
  1. Conducts studies, research, analysis, and projects; prepares and presents detailed and comprehensive reports to a variety of audiences.
  2. Prepares bid specifications and scope of work for department projects and programs. May create and facilitates bid requests, bid analysis, and contracting strategies for construction and professional services, or other services in support of capital projects.
  3. Maintains and organizes administrative documents, including but not limited to division policies, procedures, statutes, regulations, forms, notices, and webpage content.
  4. Reviews, analyzes, and develops recommendations regarding state and federal legislation. Monitors and ensures timely compliance with regulatory matters and reporting requirements.
  5. Assists with developing, establishing, administering, and monitoring programs, work methods, and standards. Assists with general administrative, operational, and financial studies, audits or analysis.
  6. Participates in the development, implementation, interpretation and administration of ordinances, administrative policies, procedures, and programs. Writes policies and implements changes in policy and processes.
  7. Provides professional and technical administrative and analytical assistance in coordinating and writing various grants.
  8. Presents results through reports, graphs, spreadsheets, charts and analyzes information using statistics, regression analysis, and spreadsheet calculations. Assists in preparing reports for presentations.
  9. Represents the department by attending or conducting various meetings. Meets with outside government agencies, and other citizen’s groups relative to goals, actions, and activities. Acts as the liaison between the department heads and staff to gather information, share ideas, and provide resources.
